Rainy Day in Oregon

Evening Grosbeak

This is a female. I've learned something new. (Wonders never cease).
I receive a newsletter from Wild Birds Unlimited. In the latest issue they have an article about some of the local birds. Evening Grosbeaks are related to the finch family. Their bills are strong enough to crack open cherry pits. I would not want to find this out personally. Black-headed Grosbeaks although resembling Evening Grosbeaks, are related to the cardinal family. A case of convergent evolution. Black-headed Grosbeak here.
