1960's Television
This is a blip of my 42ins flat screen television. I don't have 'Sky TV' but I do have all the 'free view channels' so am able to watch television 24/7.
Does anyone else remember the days of television in the 1960's?
When I was a kid we had a television (a lot of my friends didn't). There was ONE channel - BBC1.
As far as I can remember television in the 1960's was available from about 5pm-ish until about 10.30pm-ish. And also, I think it might have been on for about an hour or so round about lunchtime, for the 'News' and 'Watch With Mother' (which was a 15 min children's programme).
All I can remember of television in the 1960's was 'Blue Peter' (the main children's TV programme). I don't remember any other children's programmes. In fact I don't remember anything about television at all until at least the 1970's.
All I remember is, on Christmas Eve, my parents & Grandparents used to watch something on television. What is was - I haven't a clue. The television was black & white. (We didn't get a colour one until the mid 1970's).
There's a lot more stuff I could blip about re television - and I'm sure I will.
The main thing I remember though is - at about 10.30pm-ish the BBC closed down for the night and played, 'God Save the Queen'.
And that's just reminded me - when one went to the cinema or theatre in the 1960's, the 'National Anthem' was just part & parcel of the whole experience. It was sung either at the start or end of a performance. But again, that is another blip.
I have so much stuff to write about, so many stories to be told. And even just writing this has triggered so many other memories.
So, I guess I'll just keep on blipping??!!
