Knaresborough

Knaresborough, about 4 miles from Harrogate on the river Nidd, is mentioned in the Domesday Book and the castle dates from around 1100 AD. Granted a Royal Charter to hold a market in 1310, one is still held every Wednesday in the Market Square.

Knaresborough is also known for Mother Shipton's petrifying well, the annual Festival of Entertainment and Visual Arts and the yearly Knaresborough Bed Race.

This shot of the viaduct over the Nidd is taken from the grounds of the castle.

PS lewis417 has spotted a gnome in the tree on the right. Can see it better in large, must be the Knaresborough Gnome!
