The Only Way is Up
Another fantastic day which saw me up and about well before my usual weekend 11am starts. Hot hot hot it was - my shoulders, arms and back can vouch for that, as they were subjected to the sunshine from 11 until 5 as I (with Simon, my partner in crime) cycled the length and breadth of the city. We covered a lot of ground, 30kms to be precise, on both sides of the river, as we took in a flea market out in Kola (pronounced Co-wah - (Polish letters don't work on here)) before I realised we weren't a million miles away from a route I took last summer. So we headed further north in order to cycle back through tiny bit of forestry, which brought us back down to the river and then followed that back as far as this point, Most Gdanski, where we stopped for a much-deserved beer. Warsaw is very good on the whole for bike paths, dedicated fly-overs, road crossings and general space, but when it comes to crossing the Wisla (Vis-wah) there is no option other than to carry the bikes up and down, if you don't want to go the lonnnng way round to get up to road-level. You see fellow cyclists doing the same (in both directions) on all the road bridges, which all adds to the general exertion!
So East-side, it was the vodka factory (former), the zoo (perimeter - saw zebra!!), the beach (yes really!), and then Skaryszewski Park for an iced tea and afternoon cake from what used to be a public toilet! All totally random but hugely enjoyable and exactly why I love this place.
