Oxford Canal Bridge

This is the first bridge on the Oxford canal just after the junction with the Grand Union canal at Braunston.

For the uninitiated, the beam of a "Narrow Boat" (width) is 6'10" inches.

This measurement is very important because the locks on the Oxford canal are only 7' (feet) wide.

The locks on the Grand Union canal are 14' (feet) wide, which allows two narrow boats to use the same lock side by side thus giving a 4" (inch) clearance.
