Tewit Well

Harrogate and the surrounding area has many wells and springs, this believed to be the first one found, dating back to the late sixteenth century. It stands on the far side of the stray and was in use in the days of the spa boom. The stone canopy was originally over the old sulphur well in the centre of town.

The Royal Baths were erected in the late 1900s and many visitors came to 'take the waters' staying in the large hotels which were built at this time. There are several wells around the town, many in Valley Gardens, but most are now sealed off and only have a plaque to mark the spot.

May do a few 'well' blips, but I won't be sampling any water when I find them.

Update on yesterday's workmen. Passed by the same spot this morning and all 5 of them where heads down. The roundabout is looking good.
