Sweet Peace

Girls are away tonight and Lily not's back for a day or two and the house is very quiet.

I had a fantastic email from my big sister today - it was funny and tragic (because it was so true) in equal measure!

Also had a chat with my mum, glad she has told my sister and brother and Sister in Law about her cancer. I've known about a week but mum wasn't ready to tell everyone...I think she was just getting used to the news herself. But now it means that we can all support her however we can.

She has her op at the end of June and the prognosis is good, we hope - and she's off for a holiday before she goes into hospital so she should be relaxed and unstressed.

I popped into the garden tonight when I came home - surveyed the damage left by the naughty Jackdaws who knocked off the peanut feeding thingy this morning....and saw that the sweet peas that Evie and I planted a couple of weeks ago are coming up a treat!

I know nothing about flowers or gardening - I just hope for the best but I always remember one of those lovely hot summers as a kid and playing on my swing and behind me were loads of Sweet Peas that my mum had planted.

Beautiful flowers, so delicate and colourful and they have always been my favourites.

So, something nice that has been passed down - I hope Jeanne and Evie and (the flower herself) Lily may look and remember the Sweet Peas that their mum grew.

"...and so our mothers and grandmothers have, more often than not anonymously, handed on the creative spark, the seed of the flower they themselves never hoped to see - or like a sealed letter they could not plainly read"
