The Land Gate, Zadar

This is my 365th consecutive blip!

This morning Therry got up and swam in the sea, the outdoor pool and the indoor pool before breakfast.

After breakfast we headed down to the bus stop to get the bus into Zadar.

The fare? 13 Kuna (£1.60) for a 35 minute trip.
£1.60 would get me about 300 yards at home!

We wanted to explore the "Old Town" of Zadar and spotted our oportunity to get off the bus before it got to the bus station.

We headed for the footbridge and met Kristian who was trying to sell boat trips to Kornati National Park in the archipelago of islands just off the coast.

As we fancied a trip there we listened to his sales pitch and bought a couple of tickets for Wednesday.

We headed over the footbridge and through the archway in the wall and into the "Old Town". It is a maze of narrow streets with lots of cafes and high end shops. It seems that Zadar has been able to re-invent it's self and is now a vibrant town compared to others on the Dalmatian coast.

We wandered through them and generally headed North. We found a bell tower and paid a pound or so to climb up it and look out over the town.
(Campanille of the Cathederal of St Anastasia -56m high)

We then headed up to the N end of town to find the "Sea Organ".

This is a series of stone steps with holes carved in them.
Waves force air through the "organ pipes" and create melodic notes.

It is actually quite soothing if you can avoid the swarms of people bedecked in red baseball caps swishing back and forth, like shoals of fish, at the beck and call of their tour guide and his held-aloft umbrella!

"We're walking, we're walking!"

We followed the seafront South and cut round a little marina and back onto the road where this picture was taken.

Just through here is a little ice ceam shop where we felt obliged to sample the goods.

We had a look round the market, drank coffe and Therry bought some cherries.

We then headed off to find the bus station and the bus back to Petrcane.
