Iao Valley

Today we took a break from our usual routine of relaxing, reading, walking on the beach and, for some, snorkeling, and we drove up to the west Maui Mountains to see the Iao Needle. It's a lava pinnacle in the rain forest. Since it's a rain forest we shouldn't have been surprised that it was socked in with clouds and was raining a fine, misty drizzle. We braved the conditions and walked the trail to the outlook. The scenery was beautiful but we really didn't give it the time it deserved. We were in hurry to get back to the car and out of the rain. Five minutes down the road and we were out of the rain and back into the warm sunshine.
