Hungry Hippos

There's a family of hippos living in the dams next to the lodge that was my home. These guys look a bit pink and waddly, but they're actually pretty dangerous if you get between them and the water and can apparently outrun most other animals!

Today though, they were quietly munching on the grass at the side of the water, keeping an eye on us but going about their business peacefully. Being on horseback means that we could get really close to these guys without feeling as though we were intruding - they just saw me and my horse as one big combined creature, so stood happily/hippoly for photos!! Thank you to one of my new horse friends, FG122, for standing still enough for some degree of focus!
