Rainbow Stopped Play

Titles are important. Sometime the best photograph doesn't get blipped because another suggests a great caption. It's the way that words combine with images that makes this site so great, and the journals so captivating. I uploaded this blip in a rush, and the original title (Run for Cover) was a kind of play on words which would only have meant anything to someone who knows a bit about cricket. I think the new title is much better. The game does seem to have been stopped here, the players turned to look in wonder at the rainbow.

There is undoubtedly a magic to the rainbow which is felt by almost everyone. You spot one and you want to shout out to let people know. It needs to be shared. It's rather wonderful that people still drop everything and rush outside to go witness the spectacle when one is announced. Perhaps it's something to do with our instinctive understanding that the rainbow has no objective reality, that it is somehow a little miracle of our own creation.

So, this was my first game of cricket of the season, for the Overoptimists against Burnsall. I love the game with a passion, but watch far more than I play. I'm normally too busy running and cycling! We finished the game despite some very threatening weather, which thankfully brought just a few showers. We won quite easily, and I got the wicket I was looking for - to keep my record going of a wicket in every game I've played for this team! It was the first time I'd turned my arm all year so figures of 2-0-8-1 were very pleasing. (That's for the handful of people who might understand). There is nothing in my life which provides quite so much pleasure as clean bowling somebody middle stump with a ball that turns a shade past the bat - except now perhaps, a really good blip!

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful comments on yesterday's blip. The feedback is really appreciated.
