Island Hopping
I felt the need to stretch my legs today so headed off for one of my favourite local walks.
The islands of Little Eye, Middle Eye and Hilbre Island lie just off West Kirby in the Dee Estuary between Merseyside and North Wales and make for a great walk on a sunny day but do pay attention to the tide table or you're liable to be stranded for up to six hours or, worse, swept away if the incoming water catches you unawares.
The islands are a nature reserve, Site of Specific Scientific Interest and wetland of international importance. A great place for bird-watching and spotting the local seal colony although no seals were in evidence today... In their absence, here's a view from Hilbre across to Middle Eye with Flintshire in the distance on the right.
