Lanark Race Course
This sculpture commemorates the home of the 1st Scottish International Aviation Meeting in 1910. Reading the information board under it was really interesting:
- This was the first place that aircraft speed was recorded over a measured mile.
- Two world records were broken (altitude and speed).
- It was the first ever air show in the world that no one died at! Although two of the aircraft crashed into local trees, the pilots survived.
Air shows back then must have been wild!
