Tomato Plants galore!!!!
Well...i finally got many of my little tomato seedlings into the ground....what a performance this has been....it's very cool and exciting and i'm a total novice in this realm, having only ever grown wee flowers that i bought at some nursery! And here we are, with tomato plants that i started from seed....now tenderly placed in the garden!
Terry usually has maybe about 6 - 8 tomato plants each year....so i feel very lucky to have been given a very large piece of the garden, about 190 sq feet to be precise....to grown my tomatoes!!! With 13 different varieties of heirloom tomatoes, each of which i have between 5 - 14 plants ....you do the math....this is a shit load of tomato plants! So, i've planted 34 here in this part of the garden, i'll plant another 8-10 in a large box Terry built for this purpose, and i'll put a few in containers! What i love, apart from watching them go from tiny little scrawny plants to these somewhat robust plants, in a matter of weeks, are the names! you can tell i'm new to this growing lark eh!!! anyway, some of the names of these heirlooms are just so lovely: Wapallo, Anais Noir, Green Zebra, Speckled Roma, Russian Oxheart....one of my favs: Black from Tulla.....doesn't that sound so exotic -...and then there is Purple Calabash....and Persimmons!!! such great names! Now i really have my work cut out for me....tending all these little guys is going to be a full time job i suspect...and i have lots of pots to make too!!!
It's been a stunningly beautiful day....at last for christ sake.....sunny, warm...a bit of a breeze to keep the black fly at bay....altho i did have to put on some bug juice part way thro the day.....and i'm a happy wee gardener!
happy sunday folks!
