We have not had a good day here in Canterbury. I had to get under the table when the 6.0 quake hit us but despite the house bucking like a horse and me falling over, this vase of flowers remained in place.

We have had 16 quakes recorded so far today and it is 5.40pm. I hope the night is settled.

I hope all the Canterbury blippers are safe and OK. Around 50,000 households are without power so many may not be in touch tonight. There are some injuries but no reported deaths. Luckily many evacuated when the 5.5 hit at 1pm so were out of buildings when the 6.0 came at 2.20pm.
