Jacobite Cruise

Intended to have just a very quick drive to Tomnahurich swing bridge and get a quick blip of the Jacobite Queen which when I got there was about to set sail on its 2.00 pm cruise along the Caledonian Canal and into Loch Ness. But the sun came out for a bit so I decided to go to Dochgarroch where I could have a short walk along the towpath and catch it passing the weir. Here you can see it disappearing into the distance towards Loch Dochfour which then leads through a narrow channel into Loch Ness. To the left of the shot you can see water falling over the ramp of Telford's weir into the River Ness. The canal is at the right with the locks at Dochgarroch a few hundred yards behind the camera. There's quite a narrow bank of land between the river at a lower level and the canal so Telford planted a lot of gorse and broom to stabilize it. Tourists were on the top deck of the boat in spite of quite a cold wind - bracing.
