Allahu Akbar!
First many thanks to earthdreamer for yesterday's kind words! Make sure you drop by their journal to see some fine pictures!
This is the Central London Mosque & Islamic Cultural Centre in Regent's Park. The gold dome looks wonderful in the early morning sunshine, but the light had moved round a bit by my lunch break!
In 1940 Churchill's War Cabinet authorised £100,000 to buy the site, possibly as a sign of gratitude to the many Muslims who join the fight against Nazism, & the Islamic Centre was opened in 1944 by George VI.
After a struggle to obtain planning permission the Mosque was finally finished in 1977.
I suspect the Mosque's congregation wouldn't approve of the fact that I'm now off to the pub!
