Embargo
The city of Fort Worth is trying to get people to move back into downtown. My wife and I live in a 1930's railroad station. Several other lofts/condos have been built either from scratch or remodeled buildings. One way for us to build a sense of community was for us to create the Downtown Neighborhood Alliance. Every month we get together for drinks so that we can know our neighbors. Tonight we met at Embargo. It is a Cuban concept bar. This blip is the wall hiding the door to the kitchen. Like the rest of the place, it has lively colors. They have loud music. And Salsa dance lessons.
We hope that Embargo can last. A few months ago, they overserved a man. By all accounts he was a good man who did not drink much. But on a Sunday night, he drank ten or more beers. He got into his vehicle. Drove the wrong way on a freeway. Hit a semi truck at high speed setting the truck on fire. The drunk man survived with only minor injuries. The truck driver was burned alive. The fire was so intense, three lanes of the highway melted completely away.
I have not drank and drove for many, many years. Of course, living downtown gives me the opportunity to frequent night spots and walk home. I am not sure where I am going with this other than to hope fewer people get behind the wheel impared.
