Chilean Ash Dawn
Stayed overnight in Wellington, and took a run along the waterfront out past Oriental Bay to where Oriental Parade turns sharply and becomes Evans Bay Parade, then back to the hotel. A pleasant three quarter hour jog. With plenty of opportunities for a photo.
High over New Zealand at present is an ash cloud which has travelled almost around the world from the Chilean volcanic eruption. It is in the very high atmosphere, and is affecting the morning and evening sky. More marked the further south, and there is relatively little effect in Auckland.
This picture over the yachts in the Oriental Bay yacht haven is the best of the attempts I made to show the sky this morning. I am really pleased with the steadiness of my hands (and the surprisingly good horizon; I often get a tilt). The colour of the sky above the ash affected dawn light. The masts of the yachts. The reflections in the water. The colour of the water. One foot either way and Venus would be more clearly seen rather than appearing to be a flash of light on one of the stays on the tallest mast.
That is Eastbourne on the other side of the harbour where all the lights can be seen.
This picture is as loaded onto the computer from the camera.
