GloryGlory

By GloryGlory

Dad started to receive 'end of life' drugs via a syringe driver yesterday morning.
They've relaxed him and he isn't struggling any more.
I went over yesterday evening and sat with him through the night so Mum could get some sleep. It was a privilege.
The "Church Hymnal For The Christian Year" was on a table in his room so I started to flick through.
Many were inspirational, but this one in particular spoke loudly;

"The things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal."
2 Cor. iv. 18

The roseate hues of early dawn,
The brightness of the day,
The crimson of the sunset sky,
How fast they fade away!
Oh, for the pearly gates of Heaven,
Oh, for the golden floor,
Oh, for the Sun of Righteousness
That setteth nevermore!

O'er the dull ocean broods the night,
And all the strand is dark,
Save where a line of broken foam
Lies at low water mark.
Oh! For the Land that needs no night,
Where never night shall be;
Oh! For the quiet Home in Heaven,
Where there is no more sea.

The highest hopes we cherish here,
How fast they tire and faint,
How many a spot defiles the robe
That wraps an earthly saint!
Oh, for a heart that never sins,
Oh, for a soul washed white,
Oh, for a voice to praise our King,
Nor weary day or night.

Here faith is ours, and Heavenly hope,
And grace to lead us higher;
But there are perfectness and peace,
Beyond our best desire.
Oh! By Thy love, and anguish, Lord,
Oh! By Thy life laid down,
Grant that we fall not from Thy grace,
Nor cast away our crown.

Amen
