Bridge Tower

While waiting for the Fremont Bridge to open and close I snapped photos of it doing that - but this one of just the tower is the most appealing - to me.

While I waited one of the bridge officials was standing beside me, he had to get to an office on the other side on foot. He said that until 1919 there was a huge wheel in the street just off the section that rises and in the event the motors failed 4 very strong guys could perform the open close movement by hand. He also said the wheel was on the 35th floor of the Seattle Municipal Building and person like me could go see it. Perhaps I will.
