Educating Rita and everyone else.....

Gaz not posted yet so not sure what his stance is on Education but here is my ponderings (I ponder a lot - I like it..... nothing to beat a good ponder....:P)

This is an old school in the west end of Glasgow, it says 1903 on the building elsewhere. As you can see in those days the girls and boys had their own entrances to the building and of course every school has railings and yes threre is a gate just further down out of shot.

Seems we can learn a lot about education to me from this shot. The school itself - old, solid and brings with it the wisdom of experience. Yet the railings are rusty and the notion of segragation can mean narrowmindedness and an inability to embrace the new - something we would want to avoid. Gates and doors can be closed or be barriers or they can open and lead to new understanding we did not have before.

It seems to me a lot of problems in this world would be avoided if a modicom of common sense was used and the acceptance that not everything fits in a box - just occasionally a situation may arise that isn't mainstream and may warrent a temproray bending of rules. Too much emphasis is placed on intellectual ability today and that does not mean that it's not important but the practical side of life is equally important.

Education should not just apply to intellect - it should embrace all areas of life - for that is one school we all attend, a skill we can't afford NOT to learn and the one where we most need to be qualified to make our world a better place for everyone.

Ponder over...... oh and I found the cable for little Juan..... I miss Big Juan though (deliberate joke for those who don't know..... :P)
