Camera-Shy

By shy

bye bye....

The Barbican in Plymouth is the place where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America all those years ago, and in a forgotten little corner of that place (the Barbican, not America), there is a large gable-end wall that used to feature a beautifully coloured mural painted by the local artist, Robert Lenkiewicz
It was stunning in 1975, when I first saw it, but now it sits neglected and slowly deteriorating from the harsh effects of the salty atmosphere. Before his death in 2002, the artist himself set up a foundation for its preservation, but in the ensuing wrangles over his Estate, and despite assurances from the City Council and the University that it will be preserved, it is slowly dying, and in a couple of years, will be no more.

Tragic
