Madrid Night Life
It's been a bit of a frustrating day all in all. Bb and I missed the opening hours of the Egyptian Embassy by one minute this morning. Opening hours 9.30-11.30 and we naively went by taxi rather than metro and got stuck in hopelessly slow traffic in narrow streets. I jumped out of the taxi and ran up the stairs and actually got as far as signing in the book before hearing the dreaded words, 'Estamos cerrado', 'we're closed'. So, back tomorrow as it's to get my work visa for Cairo in July and has to be done here in Madrid. My afternoon was spent fighting with internet connection in the hotel and getting to know the remote technical support man. I discovered he was remote when I invited him up to the hotel room to fix my problem hands on! Two hours later and I gave up and took my laptop to work in the reception for the afternoon. Three hours later, back to the room to STILL no internet, so became Mrs Not Very Happy at the reception. They all knew me by this time anyway. To be fair, they then said the best thing would be to move room, which seemed fair as the problem seemed to be an 'aerial' which wasn't working on that floor. My friend the receptionist and I tested the connection on another floor, which seemed to work. Next hour spent packing and moving room, only to find the 'new' connection stayed on for just 5 mins or so at a time!!! Ggrrrr. Bb is out to dinner with conference colleagues so I'm now round the corner from the hotel on my iphone and having tapas. Was happy to see these rubbish collectors stop for a break, otherwise no blip either!
