Matera

I've used superlatives a lot in these posts (and life). But the bar has raised. Dramatically. Matera is the most beautiful, enchanting, fascinating place I have ever seen. A prehistoric city carved into the mountains. Churches in grattos, falling off cliffs into a dramatic ravine. Bells ringing against the stone, Byzantine frescos and subterranean chambers, I am staying two days. And I'm coming back with someone I love.
