Edinburgh SlutWalk
I headed into town for a few things today, one of them was to take part in the Edinburgh SlutWalk. Admittedly I was on my own as Maddy hadn't got out of bed and Roz had symptoms of a coldy/fluey thing coming on. I'm sure most of you are well aware of what they're all about but for anyone who missed it they whole principle started off as a protest to Michael Sanguinetti, a Toronto police officers suggestion that "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized."
Here in the UK the whole thing was further exacerbated by Tory MP Ken Clarke suggesting that certain types of rape, date rape for example, were less serious than others. As a result there have been a few SlutWalks held or scheduled throughout the UK.
If you're interested in reading more there's a Wiki page. I'd have felt strongly about it regardless but, having a fourteen year old daughter, I really felt like I should attend. There was a large crowd out for the event and when we got down to the parliament there were a number of speakers too.
I also bumped into Lindsey from work there too so had someone to chat to for the walk.
