Carters Bar

Located at the bottom end of Morrison Street, in the vicinity of such delights as Diane's Pool Hall and The Spiders Web, sits Carters Bar, formely Ossians. On Thursdays the very genial Tom (pictured) hosts an open mic night.
As well as Tom, the host, this evening included Jenny, an Irish singer/songwriter, one can assume by the way that she introduced some of her songs as being 'new', whose only mistake was apologising for making a mistake in the middle of a song. One should never apologise during the performance itself, instead getting straight on with it as if it was all a part of the grand scheme of things. Jenny also managed a very good cover of 'Going to California' which, bearing in mind she is trying to emulate both Robert Plant AND Jimmy Page at the same time, was extremely accomplished (despite this being the song during which the mistake that shouldn't have been apologised for was made).
'Stretch' was the next non-host to perform, who it turns out hosts Carters Bar's Tuesday night music session and probably explains his lack of coyness in front of the crowd. Stretch was pure country and extremely well executed though by this point I was pretty much clapping for the hell of it.
'Edward' seemed somewhat of a Bob Dylan clone and despite never having liked Bob Dylan I'm sure if Bob Dylan had played Carters Bar tonight I would have thoroughly enjoyed him. 'Edward' was just as good.
If you like a bit of impromptu, individual and original guitar based entertainment, get yourself down to Carters Bar on a Thursday night.
