St. Francis Lutheran Church, San Francisco, CA.

I've been blipping churches on sundays, but there's been a pause for a while. Now is the time for a blipchurch again.

In 1990 the congregation of St. Francis Lutheran Church called two pastors, who were not eligible for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) clergy roster because church policy did not allow people in same-gender relationships to serve as ELCA pastors. The congregation was found to be in violation of church policy, it was suspended from the ELCA roster of congregations and removed in 1996.

In 2010 the ELCA changed its policy and St. Francis Lutheran Church rejoined ELCA February 2011.

Today there was a visiting pastor from South Africa, the director of Inclusive and Affirming ministries (IAM), which advocates that the South African religious communities should be more welcoming and affirming towards sexual minorities. He said in his sermon, that Africa used to be more tolerant - before the missionaries came.
