Passing through York London bound. And here is that treasure known as the National Rail Museum. Not been for many years but I do remember it as a fantastic visit. More than 100 locos and 300 other pieces of rolling stock. And hundreds of thousands of railway artefacts and memorabilia.

Did you ever read a Victorian rail timetable such as Bradshaws? I love those lists of tiny stations and halts each well served with a good train service. All gone. I also enjoy a novel like Dorothy L Sayers "Five Red Herrings" where the plot includes a knowledge of Galloway timetables. Stations in the midst of nowhere. Oh, come to think of it also "The Thirty Nine Steps" and Richard Hannay's adventures.
