Midwinter Garden

Well it bloody well feels like it today! Midsummer eh? No time being spent in our 'wee' garden today...

Chicken run at the back (with 3 of the 4 girls visible), attached to the shed after clearing scrub beside it and putting a concrete base down (long time readers of my journal will have seen the initial run built, with the extension created more recently - oh, and blue because the shed was already blue, and it makes a feature of it). Potatoes planted to the side, with a new, young cherry tree in front of the shed (and a cat), then the attempt at a decorative border (with a propped up apple tree which was blown down a few years back). The house in all its 30s bungalow glory, which in the sunlight looks summery and warm with its painted walls, but remember, it's winter just now. The palm tree in front of the building is another survivor from before our time here - it's just great. It also seems to have suffered just a bit too much with the last harsh winter and the very top appears to be dead. New shoots are coming out of the trunk about halfway down, so it may get lopped fairly soon to direct all of the energy into those shoots. South facing at the rear you see, so when it is sunny it's also sheltered and the palm really thrives. Wee strawberry and herb patch (and a rose in the centre) covered in netting in the vain hope that some sun will ripen the fruit, then three raised beds which I put in a couple of years back, and the greenhouse, again trying to extract any sort of heat it can from the sun. And finally the wild bit that we're not sure what to do with (with another apple tree which has started to fruit).

Yep. I shot nothing else today, so you get a tour of the garden looking drookit. I may repeat this in the sun when everything is in full bloom at some point. If it ever happens again. Bloody weather.

Decent day though despite the weather. Ongoing good times at work; interesting possibility to get involved in professional sport in a capacity that I never would have thought would be open to me (not competing sadly); article written for Smallholder Magazine on urban chickens (waiting to hear if they like what they see); final parts ordered for the new bike....

Now, if we could just have some damned sun.

Please.

Prettily.

With a cherry on top.

p.s. having now seen the image as presented on blip, definitely needs to be embiggified - and the stitching software (Hugin) has done a decent job, save for one hiccup on the washing line...
