I Want Some

Evening all,

oh...it s the wee small hours again, when most Northern European blippers are safely in the sanctuary of their beds or bedrooms at least.

So again i'm left alone with the other insomniacs and night workers to trade type with, actually thats not true, i'm not an insomniac,

i genuinely pity people who truly suffer from insomnia, while its true i don't need a lot of sleep i am able to get a good five hours a night without any problems, and i know through my chosen profession the misery that sleep disorders can bring, be it insomnia, sleep walking, night terrors, OSA, or even the faintly silly sounding restless leg syndrome.

(My very good friend suffers from this a lot, and while i shouldn't ridicule, with him it seems permissable)

Anyway where was i... Oh yes ICE CREAM VANS!!!

Not so many around any more, only about a couple of thousand left on the roads of GB anymore (thanks for that snippet of info from radio 4)

They don't seem to sell you cheap fags anymore either, our 'school' ice cream van used to flog a fag for 10p in the seventies and early eighties i seemed to remember, i didn't partake of course, my auntie Myra was the school crossing lady and she'd whack you with the lolly stick if you were up to no good...how uncool is that, 13 yrs old been whacked on the back by an old woman in a day-glo jacket wielding a huge lollipop...brrrr makes me shiver to think about it!


Anyhow, this is our ice cream man, he's brill, i really admire him, he turns up every night,makes no allowance for the weather, rain, ice, snow, monsoon, he s there, making little or no money all around Barnsley, out for three hours every night without fail.

i really admire his enterprise and tenacity and would like to support him more often than i do, but to be honest, its a bit bad for the waistline and the wallet every night...

So if you see him, stop him and buy one, and ask him about the time he got the sole concession to sell ice cream at a very big music festival on a very hot summers day....

and yet he still keeps going on...Brilliant!!
