A la Sombre de un Leon
Back Blip
Ana Belen and Joaquin Sabina sing a famous duet called 'In the Shadow of a Lion', which is a touching number about an internee of a psychiatric hospital in Madrid who escapes one day with his wooden sword and straw shoes, makes his way to the landmark Cibeles fountain (a lovely lady riding a chariot drawn by lions) at the bottom of Calle Alcala. Ana tells how he wants to waltz with her, propose to her and sleep snuggled up together in the shadow of a lion. Joaquin recounts the discovery of his disappearance from the hospital disguised as a nurse and how he steals (I think!) an engagement ring from El Corte Ingles department store and then heads off to his favourite statue 'Cibeles'. The ending of the song is when a passing taxi driver, who witnessess the scene, sees a tear roll down the Cibeles' cheek, and in his amazement 'choco contra el Banco Central'/'crashed into the Central Bank'. I've got a soft spot for this song (apart from the lyrics which I like) as it was the first song I got in my Spanish class way back in 1991 and I immediately went out and bought a double CD of Ana Belen!
So here is the Central Bank and a taxi which managed to drive past past without crashing... and here's the song.... A la Sombra de un Leon
The pic's nothing special, but the music and the memory of starting to understand Spanish music is for me!
