Emergency Blip? No!
When I was a young whippersnapper, my dad went a long way to teaching me how to be a grown-up and showed me a number of VERY useful things. He taught me painting and decorating - and I later upgraded this to be an NVQ trained decorator; how to fit glass into windows (this, alas is a dying trade due to the presence of double glazing) and how to lay carpets. But, he never got round to showing me how to lay stair carpets...and I have never done it. I have had some carpet laying around - and a staircase that desperately needed updating. (I think the carpet on the stairs is about 30 years old, and I'm not joking!) So, finally, I took the plunge and just got on with it. I don't think it went too badly (apart from the join, but I worked round it) and am quietly pleased with the result.
Just don't mention to my dearly beloved that it was my first time!
