Passenger Pigeon in memoriam

I found a book at flea market: "Among the birds", published in Boston , 1900, fourteen years before the last Passenger Pigeon died in captivity on September 1, 1914.
In 1850´s there were billions of Passenger Pigeons in North America, but the species vanished because of mad hunting.
Are there some species in our books which do not exist in in 2025?
