The dancing egg
This is one of the oldest tradition in Barcelona, in the day of Corpus Christi.
The tradition consists of an egg that spins on the jet of water rising out of the fountain, the base of which is decorated with flowers.
Nobody knows the meaning of this tradition, but it is known that it is linked to the Corpus procession.
Some says that its meaning is some kind of representation of the Eucharist; some other that is a represantation of the plenitude of spring.
But the hypothesis that I like more is that it was a distraction for the nobles while they were waiting for the procession to pass.
You can see this atraction in some cloisters in Ciutat Vella around the Cathedral.
