Rock Cairn

I think people have had some basic impulses throughout history. I think we are compelled to:

Sing
Dance
Draw
Drum
String beads

and

Stack rocks.

Here in the southwest USA, rock cairns are used to mark the way over terrain where the trail isn't obvious. Or a sign could mark the way. Rarely do you see both in the same place.
