First Communion

Today is a holy day of obligation to celebrate Corpus Christi which was on the 23rd June.

Today is also the day that some of the children have celebrated their first communion.

Every year a procession goes through chosen streets to celebrate the event. This year it was a street leading to the castle.

Everyone in the street is involved in decorating the length of it. People bring out their potted plants, palms are cut down, bougainvillea petals are collected, red carpets the works. During the procession the priest stops to say some prayers at little alters along the route.

I had some lovely photos of the children dressed in their white outfits but chose this one as it shows the lengths they go to to out do each other in decorating their street.
