Dhapasi
I've been a little out of the loop recently, but we'll see how things go. This is Dhapasi, which is outside of the Kathmandu ring road. This particular view is one I see daily on my cycle ride into work. Its a relatively new development, building on what would at some stage have been agricultural land outside of the city. I'm given to understand that this was a 'planned' development, which is something that can't always be said for land development throughout Nepal.
Here's an extract from something I've been working on this morning which illustrates the point
"...As a general concept, land plotting offers a framework for the appropriate management of settlement and physical development, but at present it (land plotting)....appears to be motivated primarily by profit. Land is being bought in substantial quantities before being sold on for a considerable profit. In the absence of any significant legislation ,land plotting/grabbing of this magnitude will continue unchecked.... (whilst) the absence of any legislation to curb this phenomenon effectively prevents poor and indigenous people from securing land for their own usage..."
