running commentary

Why oh why oh why....

do architects insisit on putting all the waste pipes INSIDE buildings these days?
Is a pipe so unbearably ugly that nobody would consider buying a house with one attached to the outside wall? Hardly - they buy them every day of the year.
Aside from the clatter, (always clearly audible no matter how much sound insulation is supposedly fitted) of descending water as someone flushes the toilet upstairs just when you are trying to catch a bit of r&r downstairs. Theres also the issue of having pipes running under your house - the one in the centre of this shot has at least 3 metres to run below the house floor to reach the wall - what happens if something goes wrong with this pipe that cant be fixed without excavation? well, you decide to never use the bathroom ever again or you dig up your house floor.

Madness - Never buy a house with pipes under the floor.
