St John's Chapel
Down to Longman again this afternoon to get a new tyre - was there yesterday but they didn't have one in stock although I would have thought my size would be pretty common as the car certainly is. Then up the A9 a short distance to Arpafeelie and the church of St John. One of those places I've passed hundreds (literally) of times but never turned off to visit. An episcopal church a few hundred yards up an unsurfaced road with a cluster of houses. Sunday sung Eucharist at 9.45 for anyone interested. A note in the porch says it was once the Gaelic church for the Black Isle. But after walking quite a way along the track just to see where it went decided to go and find the old ruined medieval church of St John which is perhaps a mile or so away near Allengrange House. This is the shell looking from the open west end towards the east end. Easily overlooked as there's no signage to indicate its existence.
