Joshua Tree
There is a large grove of Joshua Trees just north of the Coachella Valley in the Mojave Desert.
The Joshua tree got it's name from Mormon migration across the Mojave Desert in the mid-19th century. The tree's shape reminded them of a biblical story in which Joshua reaches his hands up to the sky to stop the sun.
The native Cahuilla Indians used the leaves of Joshua Tree to weave sandals and baskets in addition to harvesting the seeds and flower buds for nutrition.
Today is a travel day back to the colder north.
We will miss the beauty and quiet stillness of the desert.
