1985 Downhill Champion

I wish!

This is the last part of the mens downhill ski course in Selva val Gardena which finishes in Santa Cristina down the valley a bit.

In 1985 I skiied this course a few weeks after the main event on 200cm Salomon Course skis (for the tifosi amongst us) in 3min 20sec, which was exactly 1min 10sec slower than the winner that year. I love the way the Italians just leave the course set and if you want a go just batter on, mind you had to do it at 8am when the course was clear. A bit of a pilgrimage for me.

As you can see in the summer it's covered in grass and if you look closely at the top you can see horses grazing. It's hard to imagine they cross the line here at 80mph.
