Definitely Visible

The highlight(s) of my day?

I thought today was going to be a big day. An important day. A significant day. Today, for the first time as an adult, I got colour put into my hair. Last time I had anything like this done was about 26 years ago, when I was 17, and I had bleach streaks put in my fair hair. My light hair turned dark mousey brown in the space of nine months in 1999, when I was 31 and pregnant with J, and it never went back to being blonde. J is 11 now and I still expect to see a blonde staring back at me when I look in a mirror.

Much though I would love to go back to the hair colour I had pre-J, I didn't want to cope with the responsibility of a full blown dye, and going down that route of having to get your roots done regularly. Jings it's almost more than I can manage to get myself to the hairdresser just for a cut, never mind anything more advanced. So some sort of highlights it was going to have to be. Blonde ones were out of the question - my current shade is so dark now that they would look too harsh, so my lovely hairdresser recommended that I start with "flash lowlights" today, very subtle apparently, and they would lead me in gently to the world of hair colouring! She thought that a caramel colour would be best, and not knowing any better I was happy to take her advice.

I had to wait 40mins for the colour to take and so I took a photo of myself in the mirror, on this monumental day!

However, when all was done and dusted I'm afraid to say that I couldn't see much difference actually, and when I went home, J looked at me with a confused expression on his face, "I thought you were getting your hair coloured?" he said. But then he looked closer and he said he could see the different sections of colour. So when the hairdresser said it was going to be "subtle", she really wasn't joking then. She also said though that they would lighten in the sun - fingers crossed for a good summer then!
