Friday Challenge - Where I Live
This is St Mary the Virgin church in Potton, Bedfordshire. I was born and brought up in Potton and, for all but nine of my (nearly) 40 years, I've lived in Potton. The church represents some major milestones in my life - I was Christened here when I was 2 months old, Confirmed here at 12 years old, married here at 26 years old. Then the funeral for my wonderful dad was held here in April 2004, and in January 2005 my daughter Becky was Christened here. Finally, my son Alex was Christened here in December 2007.
During my younger years I sang in the church choir, rang the church bells and helped out at youth groups. I couldn't describe myself as a regular church attendee these days, but still feel that this is 'my' church.
When Hubbie and I first got married we lived in Letchworth, but moved to our present house in Potton 3 years later (10 years, 1 month and 1 day ago). We live in an ordinary 3 bed semi, in a lovely location just 2 minutes walk from the Market Square with it's charming Georgian buildings.
Potton is a small town (population approx 5000) and Becky goes to the same lower school I went to (as Alex will from September), where I'm also a school governor. The teachers there include someone I was in the same class with when I was at school, someone I lived next door to when I was 8 and someone who was born in the house I live in now. Potton's like that - people stick around. Not because (as someone once said to me) "because they have no imagination", but because it's a great community to live and work in.
