The Raking Light
I love the buttery color of the late afternoon light.
It comes slanting low across the fields, casts dark purple shadows and gilds the western edges of things with a hot neon glow.
Painter's light, I call it. My friend Carol Gobin, a New England regional artist who is known for her farmscapes, loves this time of day. Much of her work is done from photos taken here, on our land, and lots of her paintings feature the yellow barns. She has an Aussie Shepherd and is one of my dog-walking friends.
It was a perfect day today. Warm and dry, fluffy white clouds in a bright blue sky. Another is coming tomorrow. And best of all, I wrote a chapter of my new novel!
