Scott Monument
Today's the day ...................... for an Edinburgh painting
Up in Edinburgh today visiting Mum and Dad. This is a painting that has been hanging in their living room for many years - and one which I have always really liked. It is entitled The Scott Monument from the National Gallery and is in acrylic on canvas.
It was painted in 1997 by Susan Hepworth, an Edinburgh artist who has exhibited widely in the city and beyond since she graduated from the Edinburgh College of Art in 1968. Apparently my Mum won this lovely painting in an Inner Wheel Charity raffle!
Inspite of being quite small - 25 cms x 30 cms - it manages to show the iconic buildings of Princes Street in exquisite detail, right down to two Edinburgh buses making their way along. With the coming (or not) of trams to the city - it could become a record of things past .......................
