Crumbs for the Chaffinch
Spent the whole day wandering around Falkland Estate, under strong sunshine and with lovely chums. Was just a perfect, relaxing day. Lots of photos taken but I've chosen this one because where all the others can be repeated in that the buildings, and bridges, and ponds, and Falkland Hill, will always be there, I felt that our breakfast buddy here was something less likely to be available for capture by camera at a future date.
Had gone to the organic cafe at Pillars of Hercules for breakfast. I had poached eggs and they were delicious - proper vibrant yellow yolks from proper free range eggs. As we ate, a male chaffinch landed on the back of Ken's seat and was eyeing our plates with interest. Jean tried to coax him to eat some of her scone crumbs from her outstretched palm, but he was a bit hesitant - though he did at one point hover like a hummingbird a few inches away from her hand. Then off he went, only to be replaced a short while later by this female chaffinch who picked at some of the crumbs we'd left on a nearby tree stump for them. When it was time to go, Jean and Al vacated first and this girl took the opportunity to hop onto Jean's plate and help herself to the remains of the scone.
