Blue Knight Down
Mrs S and I visited Linlithgow Palace in Scotland today for a jousting event organised by Historic Scotland. The Kinghts of Royal England put on a superb display of jousting and sword fighting and other forms of medieval combat. The Palace setting was magnificent and the sun shone warmly throughout the event.
There are a number of other blip photos from the event today. My contribution to the blip collection is this one with the blue knight having been ousted from his horse as a result of a telling blow from the lance of the red knight. His lance is already on the ground, soon to be joined by the knight and his shield both in mid air.
The performers were hugely entertaining and the work is not without its dangers. One of the knights got injured in battle - dislocated shoulder I think - and could take no further part. A Blackadder-like 'Bob' was also dumped in a sack as a punishment, attached by a rope to one of the horses and dragged along the arena at a fair old speed. Glad to say lady 'Bob' was fine.
They are doing it all again at the Palace next weekend too.
