Reedbeds
Edmonsley pit closed in 1920, and water from the mine workings polluted the Congburn stream with iron ochre. In 1999 a scheme removing the pollution was built using reeds to cleanse the water. The result is a clear running brook and a lovely nature area
This morning the highlights were, common blue butterflies, nuthatch, reed buntings, sedge warblers and yellowhammers.
