Jon & Dom
So, Jonny is staying with us for the time being, until his wing heals.
We are investigating the option of taking him to a seagull sanctuary in Carlisle when he has recovered and is ready to meet other saegulls, but they have said that for now, the care he s getting here is just as good as he would be getting there.
Dominic is growing increasingly fond of Jonathan; and now that Jon has started to associate feeding time with Dom, he's getting pretty friendly too!
As you can see here, we took Jonathan Seagull to get his poor little broken wing bandaged up at the vet yesterday. He's settling in nicely to his new, temporary home in the cleared out garden shed, which has now been modified with chicken wire to make it into a nice, roomy hutch, with a padded out box in the corner to sleep in.
As much as Jonny likes his house, he also seems to enjoy exploring the garden; so today he hopped out for a wander. Sadly, he seems to be terrified of any other seagulls flying past (understandably, as seagulls are actually cannibalistic animals!) and tends to cower and hide when he sees or hears one...unfortunately though, today, he decided he wasn't so scared and so began squawking at one (who is very unlikely to be his mother as he was found in Edinburgh and we are in Inverkeithing..) flying by....soon enough THIRTEEN seagulls flocked around the garden, looking for a way to swoop down and attack him, so we had to quickly intervene and shut him back in his hutch.
He recovered in time for his afternoon tea, where he came out again, had a go on the trampoline and ate some fish offcuts that we bought for him earlier.
I really liked this, rather tender shot of Jonny giving Dom an affectionate (gentle) nibble, after he'd eaten his fill.
If anyone wants to donate to the save johnny effort, Dom has set up a facebook page where you can throw in a few quid if it you feel like it :)
We realise a lot of people will be animal lovers too, please rest assured a lot of time is being spent on the phone with the bird rehabilitation centre and we are carrying out their instructions on diet, water, housing and handling etc to the letter
